Excite (NASDAQ:XCIT) agrees to acquire Classifieds2000 for 890,000 common shares or about $48 million stock swap, pooling of interests. The buy will integrate Classifieds2000 more than 1.5 million listings into Excite's web sites. Another deal for the most acquisitive search/navigation site.
USWeb (NASDAQ:USWB) also keeps on the acquisition trail with an agreement to acquire privately-held IT solution provider Ensemble Corp. of Dallas. Little by little USWeb seems to be building a national network of business web presence and solution providers.
RealNetworks (NASDAQ:RNWK) gets the nod from a slew of broadcasters and cable firms which plan to use the audio-video streaming software developer's RealAudio and RealVideo products to deliver media via the Internet. we see this as a big coup for RealNetworks which already has the widest platform for streaming media on the Web. As "traditional" media companies embrace its technologies that could push it further into a de facto standard.
